I believe points are related to the strength of the teams you win and lose to, not just record.
We played a 3rd game today about 1:30. I finally held on this time, for a 27-20 and this time we didn’t need OT like the first two. Our matchup record is now an even 1 win, 1 loss, and 1 tie each. I love our games….want to play a 4th one tomorrow?

When we play vs each other, the winner gets ELO points. But the amount of ELO points gained, is taken from the ELO points total that the losing team has earned.
Elo is kind of complex formula. I use a simplified version of the formula at the link, eliminating factors in the formula that don't really apply to outcomes of Sandbox games:
